September 9th primary - time to vote!

The main election 2008 interest of the Maplewood Voters Coalition will be focused on the District 622 School Board. There is no primary for that election. In fact, we will not know the slate of candidates until September 9th.

Nevertheless, several critical offices do have primaries on September 9th:

• US Senator
• State Representative District 55A (55A residents only)
  
• Ramsey County Commissioner District 7
• MN Supreme Court - Associate Justice 3
• MN Supreme Court - Associate Justice 4
• MN 2nd District Court - Judge 21

We will put together what information we can to help Maplewood voters make informed choices.

Precinct Changes

There have been changes to several Maplewood precinct boundaries. Visit the city website for details (pdf). If you were affected, you should have received a postcard.

Endorsements - Primary 2008

The Maplewood Voters Coalition board did not interview candidates or do other group screening for the 2008 primary. Instead, MVC members offer these individual recommendations:

I am very happy with the candidates I will be able to vote for this year, they have served us well: Leon Lillie as Representative of district 55A, Victoria Reinhardt as Commissioner, Betty McCollum for Congresswoman, Al Franken for Senator. I am also happy to vote for Howard Orenstein for Ramsey County Judge.

Christeen Stone

DFL incumbents Victoria Reinhardt and Leon Lillie have served citizens well and should be asked to continue their work. Al Franken should join them on the DFL team.

Former St. Paul Mayor George Latimer and Congresswoman Betty McCollum support Howard Orenstein for Ramsey County (District 2) Judge. I respect their opinion!

Please consider Rick Gallo for Supreme Court Associate Justice 4.

• Developing candidates and positions
• Endorsing candidates
• Advocating for candidates and positions
• Supporting previously endorsed elected officials

The focus will be on ISD 622 School Board, Ramsey County Commissioners, and of course getting ready for City Council 2009.
